butcher’s ‘the record’ horizontal enlarger

An extremely large antique horizontal englarger by W Butcher and Sons of Farringdon Avenue, London. The company was established in 1866 and made cameras, photographic equipment, magic lanterns and cinematographs. This is a particularly large example, at maximum extension measuring a staggering 95cm long, excluding curtain, and 50cm high. The instrument bears a number of maker’s plates, to the front being marked ‘The Record’ and ‘British Made’, also bearing the Patent number 14137/1913. The plate holder is for British Quarter Plate glass slides, 4¼" x 3¼”, in both portrait and landscape format with rotational adjustment by means of a thumbscrew to the side. Focusing and bellows extension is achieved by a novel system of chains and sprockets. The lens is an Aldis Butcher 10” Projection Lens. NOT FOR SALE
