LANCASTER INTERNATIONAL TAILBOARD

An excellent example of J Lancaster & Sons 'The International' folding half plate tailboard camera.  James Lancaster & Sons were a Birmingham-based firm of opticians and maker of cameras and lenses, established in 1835.  In 1905, J Lancaster & Sons became a limited company, so this particular camera is most likely earlier than this.  It bears two ivorine plaques, one with the maker's name and the other the make and model of the camera.  The hinges to the rear are also engraved with the Lancaster name, as is the lens.  NOT FOR SALE
