Midland camera company horizontal enlarger

 

A horizontal enlarger by the Midland Camera Company, Birmingham, used for making photographic prints from glass negatives in the British Standard quarter plate (3¼” x 4¼”) size. Focusing adjustment is achieved by means of rack and pinions to front and rear. The lens is a 170mm Kodak Anastigmat f7.7 housed within a Kodak Ball Bearing mechanical shutter. Makers plate to the front and a patent label top with the words ‘Registered Design 549, 513’ and another on the plate holder for 549, 514. Lighting by means of an electrical light fitting, possibly a later adaptation. 82cm long (extended) and 46cm high. The Midland Camera Company was established in 1899 and became a limited company in 1912, shortly prior to being acquired by Thornton Pickard. NOT FOR SALE
