perken & son ‘optimus’ magic lantern

A fine, late Victorian mahogany and brass magic lantern by Perken & Son of Hatton Garden, London. This is variant of the company’s ‘Optimus’ lantern, manufactured under a trade name that was registred in 1885. The word ‘Optimus’ is engraved to the lens mount and cover, also to the slide carrier. An Ivorine plaque bears the maker’s name and address. The lantern is fitted with a arc burner, possibly non-original. Extended length 70cm (28”) x 47cm (18”) high. NOT FOR SALE
