Butcher & Sons ‘coronet’ horizontal enlarger

An antique horizontal enlarger by W Butcher and Sons Ltd of Blackheath, London. This super example of the company’s ‘Coronet’ model was patented in 1913. It is made from English Oak with a tinplate lamp housing and leather bellows. The lamp housing can be moved backwards and forwards by means of the lever to the side, and bellows extension is by means of an unusual chain and sprocket system. The lens provides fine focusing by rack and pinion. There is a retailer’s plaque to the top for “Sands Hunter & Co Ltd, 37 Bedford Street, Strand, London WC”. To the front, an embossed brass plate bears the words “W.B. Sons Ltd, British Made” for Butcher & Sons. A further brass plate is marked “The Coronet Enlarger” and third plate records the patent number and year of manufacture. At maximum extension, the instrument measures 60cm long (excluding curtain) and it stands 37cm high. NOT FOR SALE
