19th Century miner's dial, Abraham Abraham of Liverpool

£0.00

A fine quality 19th Century miner’s dial by Abraham Abraham of Liverpool. Abraham Abraham, son of Jacob Abraham, was an optician and instrument maker operating from premises at 8 Lord Street, Liverpool from 1818. He worked closely with various other makers through the course of his career, perhaps most significantly with the famed microscope maker, John Benjamin Dancer in the 1840s. Abraham retired in 1855.

This particular miners dial is of relatively large proportions, measuring 33cm (13”) long, standing 21cm (8”) high and with a 12.5cm (5”) diameter silvered compass dial, which is inscribed ‘A Abraham, Liverpool’.

Condition: A good survivor of an early instrument; the brass-work with just the right amount of patina, age-related tarnishing etc. The silvered dial in excellent condition. Compass needle swinging freely and locking mechanism for safe transit still operational. Minor distortion to sighting arms. Case with original finish with good colour and shine. Missing catches and key.
