thornton pickard ‘perfecta’ vertical enlarger

An antique vertical enlarger by Thornton Pickard of Altrincham, Manchester, UK. This, the company’s ‘Perfecta’ model, dates to around 1930 and would have been used in the darkroom for enlarging British quarterplate glass negatives to a suitable size for printing. The body of the larger slides along the upstand, counterbalanced by a brass weight concealed to the reverse, and fine focusing is achieved by bellows extension under rack and pinnion. Height 95cm, baseboard 31cm x 39cm. Also shown is a plate drying rack.
