Mahogany and Brass magic lantern by w c hughes & sons of London

 

A fine, very large, late Victorian mahogany and brass magic lantern by William Charles Hughes of London, who worked from his Mortimer Road premises from 1883 until 1903. This particular example measures an substantive 86cm at maximum extension, excluding the rear curtain, and stands 45cm high. It is fitted with a ‘Quickset’ electrical lamp and the R R Beard ‘Eclipse’ patent slide changer.
