watson & sons of London, ‘ACME’ half plate camera
A fine, late Victorian, folding half plate camera by Watson and Sons of London. Well-constructed using Spanish mahogany and dovetailed joints and brass fittings, leather bellows, with rising and tilting front, reversing back and rotating turntable to base. The lens is without maker’s name and is marked ‘Lightning, Regd. Made in France’. To the front of the camera, an Ivorine maker’s plate reads ‘W Watson & Sons, Ltd, Manufacturers, 313 High Holborn, London'.’ The camera is complete with a high quality, brass-bound double dark slide and a canvas case.
