A superbly-made Edwardian mahogany and brass magic lantern by Broadhurst, Clarkson and Co of London. The company is best known for its high quality astronomical telescopes, but also made other optical and scientific instruments including magic lanterns. This example is engraved with the maker’s name to the lens “Broadhurst, Clarkson & Co, 63 Farringdon Road, London EC1’. The ivorine plaque to the side is for the retailer, Newton and Co Opticians of London. The black plinth is a later addition. Overall length 62cm, height 41cm. NOT FOR SALE
