A large and nicely-engineered brass surveyor’s level by Chadburn Brothers, Opticians, of Sheffield. Engraved with the maker's name and presented in its original mahogany fitted case, it measures approximately 18" (46cm) long. Chadburn Brothers were a firm of opticians and instrument makers based in the town's Albion Works, Nursery Street. They were active in the 1840s/50s.
