‘the educational’ by edmund wheeler

A fine Victorian lacquered brass compound microscope by Edmund Wheeler of 48 Tollington Road, Holloway, London.  Wheeler was perhaps best known for making microscope slides, but he was also a scientist and a teacher, touring the length and breadth of the country delivering scientific lectures. In addition, he developed a successful business making optical instruments including some superb microscopes.  This particular example, Wheeler's "New Educational" model, was in production in the 1860s and is illustrated in the company's catalogue of 1869 (second image).
