LANTERN STAND (HOLMES)

 

A late Victorian antique adjustable magic lantern or studio camera tripod stand by Holmes Brothers of Manchester. The company was established in  1876 and became a well-regarded maker of high-class photographic apparatus, operating from the City's Southall Street.  This beautifully-made very substantial tripod stands on its original castors, has its original, heavily engineered, worm gear for height adjustment and another mechanism for changing the angle of the hinged platform at the top.  The original Ivorine maker's plate is present, in addition to various labels to the top.   Adjustable height from 36" (93cm) to  49" (125cm) at maximum extension, top board measures 18" (46cm) x 26" 68cm. NOT FOR SALE
