Antique Four Draw Stalking Telescope, Circa 1910

£365.00

A fine quality 25-40 magnification antique four-draw stalking telescope by one of London's most prestigious makers - Broadhurst Clarkson & Co. This nicely patinated brass and leather-bound instrument is fitted with a 2" objective lens and has a three draw body with a fourth for adjusting the magnification, together with a sliding sunshield and leather caps. It is engraved "Broadhurst Clarkson & Co Ltd, 63 Farringdon Road, London, E.C." and likely dates to around 1910. Fully extended it measures 84cm (33") and when not in use stows down to a very compact 28cm (11").

Condition: A very well-preserved example in excellent condition. The optics are clear and free from an chips, cracks, haze or fungus. As might be expected from this maker, the instrument gives a crystal-clear pin-sharp image. The brass components retain their original unpolished finish, deliberately dull so as to reduce reflections, and now showing excellent patination and just a couple of very small indentations. The leatherwork is superb, with beautiful shine, near-perfect stitching and only very minor scuffs and scratches. The end caps are both present, each marked to the inside with the previous owner's name.
