Broadstairs, Kent. Port Regis House. Stereoscopic glass slides. 1913-14
Broadstairs, Kent. Verascope, Jules Richard, Taxiphote format (45mm x 108mm) glass stereoscopic images:
This historic collection of twenty-four glass stereoscopic slides all date to around 1913-14 and are believed to have been taken by an affluent French family on their holiday to Kent area in South East England in the years leading up to the outbreak of World War 1. The majority depict the country mansion at Port Regis, prior to its later use as a convent and school. Also included in this collection are images of the nearby Ramsgate Harbour, Margate Harbour and Sands. All of the slides hand-annotated in French script. All are unique and unpublished images, and give a great impression of three dimensions when viewed through a suitable stereoscope - almost like being there in person!
The collection is housed within a Bakelite slide carrier suitable for use in 'Taxiphote' type stereoscopes, though these images can also be used in any Richard Verascope handheld stereoviewer of the kind that regularly show up on eBay etc.
Please see my other listings for more historic stereoscopic images of the Broadstairs, Margate and Ramsgate locality.
All slides in excellent condition, with the exception of the image of a sailing yawl at Ramsgate Harbour which has a small edge chip.
Overseas buyers welcome.
