Columbia 105 Portable Gramophone playing Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer - see and hear it play!

£100.00

A vintage Columbia Model 205 wind-up picnic gramophone dating to the 1930s. Click here to see and hear it playing 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer' by the American organist Ken Griffin.

As shown in the images, this stylish model was finished in black with contrasting chrome-plated components. It had fast/slow adjustment, automatic start and brake, a detachable cranked winding handle and black faux-leather case. This example still plays well, with considerable volume and reasonably good sound quality. It measures approximately 40cm x 28cm x 16cm (with case closed). Note that it is suitable only for playing Shellac records, at 78rpm, and cannot be used with later vinyl records.

Condition: Cheaper and with a little more age-related wear than my other gramophones, this example nonetheless survives in reasonably good condition and plays well. There are numerous marks to the chromium plating and replacement screws to both the sound-box clamp and needle holder. The turntable is good, still with original felt. All controls are functioning correctly, including the automatic start and brake mechanism. The black Rexine-covered case is in reasonably good shape with just a few minor marks. The record shows a little wear consistent with age and use, and comes with a nice period sleeve, but with some scuffs to the inside of the lid where the tone arm has rubbed. Working well, though but because of its age this gramophone is sold without warranty.
