Hailwood & Ackroyd WW2 ARP Blue Glass Miners Lamp
A WW2 era Blue Glass Miners Lamp: An intriguing blue-coloured miners lamp by Hailwood & Ackroyd of Morley, Leeds, fitted with blue glass. Following the electrification of the mines, the company found itself with vast quantities of surplus stock, and saw an opportunity following the outbreak of World War 2 to adapt these lamps for use by Air Raid Wardens when marking gas leaks during air raids. The lamps were fitted with blue glass, which made them difficult to spot by enemy aircraft flying overhead. Reputedly around 100,000 such lamps were produced, selling at 3/6d.
26cm high.
Condition: In very good, used condition. Steel components largely dent free and with only light localised surface rust/oxidation. Brass maker's plaque with wear from polishing. Glass in good order.
