
WW2 era 'Gibson Girl' Air-Sea Rescue Kite
A 'Gibson Girl' RAF Rescue Kite dating back to the World War 2 (1939-45) era. This M-357A box kite was designed to be used by airmen who had ditched at sea, specifically for lifting a radio antenna aloft so that distress signals could be transmitted over greater area, thereby significantly increasing the chances of aircrew being rescued.
91cm x 43cm x 43cm, assembled. 54cm when stowed in original metal cannister.
Condition: A great survivor! This rescue kite is in near-original condition with vibrant colour and excellent stitching. The metal cannister has age-related wear and a couple of indentations.
