the ‘artist’ enlarger by thornton pickard

An antique horizontal enlarger by Thornton Pickard, adapted for use as a magic lantern. This, the company’s ‘Artist’ model, was in production in the early 1900s. It measures a staggering 92cm when fully extended, and is 35cm high. This example survives in super condition, with deep red mahogany, original bellows and tinplate in excellent condition. Bellows extension is by means of a rack and pinnion system. The plate carrier is by Thornton Pickard and bears the company mark on the glass insert. It is suitable for British quarter plate images or magic lantern slides. The brass lens is without maker’s mark.
